HuggyBunny™ Inc. is the creation of Andrea Chrem. Her experience in the retail clothing business, her family’s roots in Peruvian cotton manufacturing, and frustration with clothes made with inferior fabrics inspired this special line of 100% Peruvian Pima cotton baby clothes. Tagless and constructed from custom fabrics, screen printed with colorful and lighthearted animal theme illustrations, this classically styled layette aims to be the most comfortable, high quality baby line available while remaining reasonably priced.
After co-owning and managing retail stores in Manhattan and Brooklyn for six years, opening a successful women’s clothing store in the process, Andrea decided she was ready for a change. While on break from the retail business volunteering in her native Peru to help earthquake victims she rediscovered her interest in the country’s textile industry, specifically cotton textile manufacturing, which had been the family business for generations. Her father Antonio, recently retired and now a consultant to HuggyBunny™, had owned and presided over a large factory producing a variety of finished fabrics from raw Peruvian cotton.
She returned to New York and started laying out the styles for the layette choosing classic patterns with practical touches like lap collars and easy snap inseams. She drew on the talents of her husband Reeves Blakeslee who created the cheerful, eye catching illustrations for the layette and developed HuggyBunny™’s branding and web design. Both are graduates of Rhode Island School of Design where they were imbued with strong design sensibilities. They created clean, smart, fashionable styles that stand out and above other baby lines.
